Last night, before going to bed he pulled his brown Mater and told me it was broken. With single word sentences and hand gestures, he let me know how sad it was that his “best friend” was no longer working. With me being tired I didn’t really gave it much importance, and told him I would replace the batteries the next day after work. He insisted in me fixing it and I stood my ground, I told him I would get to it the next evening. Unwilling to take a no for an answer, and realizing I wasn’t going to help him then, he remembered where I keep the rechargeable batteries and pulled 3 of them. He grabbed his Mater and flipped it on its side.

I still didn’t pay much attention but I didn’t stop him. In the morning when I woke up, my wife came from work and we were talking when I noticed something sticking out of the bottom of the car. The shine I found was the back of the energizer batteries wedged into a ridge of the car underneath. My heart almost fell to the ground knowing that he did what daddy was too tired to do at night even though it would take me only 2 or 3 minutes to do. I picked up the car, found some charged batteries and found the compartment where the old batteries were in the car and replaced them.

I have now a little bit of bitter sweet feeling. I am sad I didn’t help him, that I wasn’t there for him. I’m glad I didn’t and proud of him too. He used his 2year old brain to know what it takes to make something work and where it would possibly be where those darn batteries go. Proud moments like this you have to live to understand. I know many people aren’t impressed with a two year old trying to repair their toys, but I am of my son that has an idea of how things work and has the drive to make things happen for himself. I know he will not be afraid of trying, and that’s the recipe for a successful man.

Yesterday at his grandparent’s Here he’s with his momma (my lovely wife) after his bath after his buzz cut.

The baby has grown into a toddler, with so much to do with him every day on top of work, I have not even kept our main blog, here though, I want to post stuff during the day when I get a chance. I am always busy but when I get a call from my wife, I like to write down what she told me many times she’ll tell me of new things he’s done and what he has learned. I hope I can keep up at least a little blurb here and there.
Today, he said auntie, and at this point he has many other words. First one was applesauce and from there he went with agua, cheese, Elmo, Ernie, up, oops, ama (momma), dada, in addition to making sounds of: Cars, sirens, dog barking, birds chirping, and perhaps others that I can’t remember. Following posts will not be as elaborate as this one. He ate a whole pear today, he loves fruits and we can’t wait for summer to come so we can go to the farmers market and buy organic and fresh stuff.
